Millom Infant School

Every child a learner, we all learn together

Curriculum

Our curriculum is currently undergoing a huge overhaul to enable us to provide the best possible education for our children.

We use a mixture of paid-for schemes and bespoke medium term plans across all our subjects. The documents below give only a flavour of the broad, balanced curriculum we have in place, but this is still very much under development.

Phonics

Across school we use the 'Read, Write, Inc' phonics scheme. This scheme incorporates all the sounds and blends that children need to know in order to be fully prepared for the Phonics Screening Check  at the end of Year 1.

For more information on this scheme, click here, or speak to our Phonics and Early Reading lead, Mrs Preston.

Forest Schools

Each term a year group visits Foxwood to take part in the Forest School programme.  Children can experience outdoor learning activities lead by Mrs. J. Date, our qualified Forest School leader.  We make the most of the local environment and this programme enables us to visit and learn about local woodland, make dens and toast marshmallows!

It is very important that children dress according to the weather.  A list of suitable clothing and footwear will be handed out with a consent form.  There is also a charge of £1.00 per week to help cover the cost of the transport.

If you would like to know more about these sessions, please contact Mrs. Jones or Mrs Date.
