Millom Infant School

Every child a learner, we all learn together

PSHE

Our Vision:

Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education gives pupils the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life in modern Britain. It contributes to personal development by helping pupils to build their confidence, resilience and self-esteem, and to identify and manage risk, make informed choices and understand what influences their decision. Developing an understanding of themselves, empathy and the ability to work with others will help pupils to form and maintain good relationships, develop the essential skills for future employability and better enjoy and manage their lives. responsible and balanced lives.

Our Aims:

We want our children to develop the skills and understanding needed to become open, principled and engaged citizens in contemporary society. We want them to know how to stay safe and make good decisions; how to protect their own rights and stand up for the rights of others; how to live a healthy lifestyle; and how to be ready for life beyond school. Moreover, they need to leave our school understanding and embracing the values of liberty, equality, democracy, the rule of law and a sense of right and wrong. To that end, we have built on the One Decision programme of study to provide an education that reflects the needs of our community. Finally, we want out children to be engaged and active members of society, keen to share their ideas, become leaders in their community and pursue ambitious goals.

Early Years:

In Early Years we focus on quality first teaching adhering to Development matters and focusing on the PSED and Physical Health and Self Care areas. The One Decision Early Years resources have been designed to meet the needs of the Development Matters Framework and cover a number of key areas but, in particular, elements of PSED. Students are guided through the Early Years resources by the colourful Rainbow Drop characters. Throughout these resources, the Rainbow Drops will go on many adventures and learn a lot about the wider world that they live in. Discussions are recorded in our Floor books.

Key Stage 1:

In an ideal world, children would arrive at school socially developed and ready to learn but this is not always the case. As such, high-quality life skills education is essential for all students to reach their full potential. 1decision provides an interactive bank of resources which supports PSHE, RSE, Health education, SMSC development, and safeguarding. Mapped to the PSHE Association’s Programme of Study, and ensuring full coverage of the statutory elements for Relationship Education and Health Education, the 1decision resources help children to develop the skills needed to manage difference influences and pressures, as a part of their personal development. The unique suite of resources allows students to experience challenging situations in a safe environment.
